Hi, everybody -

I’ve finally managed to get my first album of photos online. These are selected from the hundreds of pictures I took in the first week… I’m going to calm down a bit, but I had fun!!

I think the album takes some time to load on “slideshow” view, so it might be better to view the photos one at a time to see them clearly…

All is well – I’m enjoying a night on the town, a hotel room with air conditioning and CNN (for 15 dollars a night) and will enjoy at least one hot shower before heading back to Wat Opot tomorrow noon.

I’m working on getting the passwords taken OFF this site so that everyone can view it – but again, please be patient. My online minutes are limited at the moment. But I should soon have the code to unlock my French telephone so I can get a Cambodian SIM card, and will be able to access the internet at least a few minutes every day.

And… we hear that electricity may just be installed in a matter of a few months!! Wow. What changes that will bring to Wat Opot. One of my favorite moments may soon become history: sitting on the wall hugging the kids between sundown and that miraculous moment when Sari turns on the generator, and everyone scatters to watch TV, listen to karaoke, whatever. It’s going to mean a lot of changes, in fact, and Wayne is already thinking hard about how to prevent the different families from blasting their TVs all night and using up millions of kilowatt hours in the process… New challenges every day here.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rat’s days are nearing an end – Wayne and I have agreed that serious measures are in order. We’ll see what he comes up with. One idea is putting a bounty on his head (Mr. Rat’s, that is, not Wayne’s…)

Mosquitos are arriving (I’m outside at a café) and my battery is running low, so it will soon be time to retire to the AC and hear more about the financial crisis in the US, plane crashes, bombs in Pakistan… (See, I’ve already tuned in once today. Perhaps once is enough, in fact.)
